This pattern recreates the elegant Zhiduo (直裰) , a classic garment from the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644). Known for its structured cross-collar (jiaoling交领) and voluminous wide sleeves, this unisex design embodies the refined Confucian aesthetic of ancient China. The Zhiduo (直裰) was originally worn by scholars, officials, and commoners alike, valued for its straight silhouette and dignified drape. This pattern faithfully captures the historical cut while offering modern sizing and clear construction instructions.

Style: Ming Dynasty Cross Collar (交领右衽) with Wide Sleeves.

Garment Type: Zhiduo (直裰) – a traditional straight robe characterized by a cross-collar that wraps to the right (youren右衽) and NO side gores (bai) for ease of movement.

Unisex Design: Suitable for all genders, this pattern stays true to the historical unisex tradition of Hanfu, with adjustable proportions for a comfortable fit.

To achieve the signature drape of a Ming-style robe, choose medium-weight woven fabrics with structure:

Cotton & Linen: Ideal for daily wear and summer versions; breathable and crisp.
Silk (Satin or Crepe): Perfect for formal or ceremonial garments; provides a luxurious sheen and fluid drape.

Zi Mu Kou (Mother-Child Clasps): For a more refined finish, metal or jade clasps can be used at the collar or side closures.

Trims: Contrasting piping (gunbian) or silk satin binding along the cross-collar and front opening. Or, premium fabrics, carefully chosen in colors and patterns that match the main fabric, are used for the wide inner facing along the edge of the side slits, hem and cuff add authentic detail.

Embroidery: Personalize with traditional motifs (orchids, clouds, or geometric borders) along the sleeve cuffs or hem.

Note: Traditional Hanfu does not use frog closures (pankou); those are characteristic of later Qing dynasty and cheongsam garments.
